Past Events

CamBRAIN organises academic talks, presentations, workshops and social events for its membership across the University of Cambridge. The events below are the internal events the society has hosted.

Stress and mental health are closely linked to physical wellbeing. Chronic strain may affect sleep, appetite and concentration, and over time it can contribute to mood difficulties, weight gain, headaches and digestive complaints. Recognising the early symptoms — restlessness, irritability, difficulty relating to others, or a general sense of being overwhelmed — is often the first step toward feeling better and regaining a sense of calm and balance.

Sharing knowledge is another important part of mental health awareness. Talks, presentations, workshops and informal gatherings create space for people to talk openly about psychological and physiological challenges, to hear from others going through similar experiences, and to reduce the stigma that often surrounds conditions affecting mood and thinking. Awareness, education and conversation together form the foundation of lasting peace of mind.

Academic and social events encourage curiosity about the brain and the mind. Sessions featuring early-career researchers and speakers help members understand how conditions are studied, how symptoms present, and how evidence-based coping strategies are developed. Casual meet-ups and discussion evenings complement the formal programme, offering welcoming settings in which people can ask questions, exchange ideas and build supportive connections with peers.

Environmental and social pressures play a significant role in how people manage difficult feelings. Deadlines, family responsibilities, financial worries and academic or workplace demands can leave inadequate resources to cope, particularly when internal sources of pressure already feel overwhelming. Learning to identify triggers and external stimuli that weaken coping capacity allows individuals to build healthier habits, seek support earlier and maintain emotional stability during challenging periods.
